Age 87, on Saturday, May 6, 2023, originally of the North Side.
Shirley Ann Smith was born in McKees Rocks, PA on July 19,1935 to the late Mattie Pearl Williams-King, and the late William Chapman (Chadman), and step-father John Richard King.
She was educated through the ninth grade at Baxter Elementary school in Homewood, PA. She married the late Charles Bunny Smith in 1957, and subsequently became a proud mother of ten children. Shirley was a homemaker by trade. However, she worked several odd jobs to make ends meet. She possessed a big heart as well as a kind spirit. Her journey throughout life was marred by one disappointment after another. She experienced emotional, physical as well as social traumas. Yet, in the face of adversity, she remained steadfast in her faith in God. Shirley truly enjoyed the simple things in life, bingo, good food, great music and all things dainty and feminine.
Shirley leaves to cherish many fond memories. Six daughters, Lucretia Marie Williams, Vonda Renee Smith, Romaine Smith, Lenora Louise Smith, Carol Elizabeth Smith-Brown and Viola Joanne Smith-Wallace, beloved son-in-law Vallon Walllace, one son, Calvin Smith, Jr. Shirley is survived by a plethora of grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Additionally, Shirley is survived by her best friend Carole King.
Shirley was preceded in death by mother, Mattie Pearl Williams-King, John Richard King, ex-husband Charles Bunny Smith, Charles Jerome Smith-Bey, Robert Lee Smith, Sammy Smith, Adair Porter, Elenor King-Brown, Dorothy Spearman and Robert Lee King.
The family of Shirley Ann Smith gratefully acknowledges with deep appreciation all acts of kindness extended to us through expressions cards, visits, phone calls, social media posts as well as every act of kindness during our time of bereavement.
