Robert Harvey Obituary

HARVEY

Robert A.

Robert A. Harvey passed away on May 27, 2020, after battling lung cancer and dementia.

Bob was born on March 22, 1945 to Robert W. Harvey and Ruth Hagerstrom Harvey. Bob spent his childhood years in the Brookline section of Pittsburgh, later moving to Bethel Park, and graduating from Bethel Park Senior High School in 1963. After high school, Bob attended Point Park College, completing an associate degree in communications. While attending college, Bob worked for KQV Radio Station -- on the corner of ‘walk and don't walk’ -- where he reported on traffic; gathering traffic conditions during Pittsburgh morning and afternoon rush hours. Bob was the first Pittsburgh traffic reporter to do rush hour traffic from a helicopter. In fact, he earned the moniker of Captain Bob. He later joined the news department at KQV. In later years, Bob also worked for Channel 11 News in Pittsburgh.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and he leaves behind brothers and sisters; Ralph Harvey and wife Peggy, Nancy Cross, Tom Harvey and wife Carol, and Elaine Giacalone and husband Peter, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Bob spent 50 years of his life in the Mt. Washington section of Pittsburgh, where he felt his roots truly were, and he knew many residents of The Mount and considered them family.

Due to Coronavirus, Bob’s memorial service will be at some time in the future.
