PORTA
Mary E.
Mary Porta, age 79, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 25, 1945, Mary was the devoted wife of Richard Porta, with whom she shared a remarkable 59 years of marriage. Together, they built a warm and loving home, raising three children who were the pride and joy of her life: Vicky Snyder, Dawn Igims (Jim), and Bonnie Shontz (Bob). Mary was also the cherished grandmother of six grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart, Christi, Richie, Elizabeth, RJ, Corrinne, and Carly, and of five great-grandchildren.
Those who were close to Mary will remember her for her sense of humor, infectious laugh, and spirited personality. Most often known as “Mummy” and “Grammy”, Mary spent her life as a beloved homemaker and dedicated her life to nurturing those around her. Her warmth and wisdom touched the hearts of everyone she met. Mary’s greatest joys included baking, painting, and playing the slots at the casino. She enjoyed hosting holidays and spending quality time with her cherished family who relished her home-cooked meals made from recipes ingrained in her mind. Mary’s strong will towards life not only kept her going but inspired those around her to do the same.
There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed Mary’s family feels to have had her in their lives. There will be no services held at this time. Mary’s remains will be cremated and her family will host a Celebration of Life in the coming weeks. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
