HUNT
Gloria Jean
On September 9th, 2024, Gloria Jean Hunt (Powell), passed away peacefully in the presence of her best friend.
Gloria was born to the late Roy and Dorothy Powell in Gary Indiana in January of 1940 where she grew up learning to become a master seamstress and talented piano player. In 1957 Gloria married Robert Hunt (deceased) and moved to Pittsburgh's Beltzhoover neighborhood. With Robert working at the Homestead steel mill and supplementing their income by studio wrestling, Gloria took on the role of housewife and mother. During their 61 years of marriage they had 4 children: Brian (deceased), Patricia, John, and Barbra. In between homemaking, Gloria put her seamstress skills to work and started and operated her own alterations and upholstery business. Gloria loved "do-it-yourself" projects, gardening, going on vacations and spending time with her family. A devout Jehovah's Witness of 64 years, "Aunt Glo" as she was affectionately known by many, was a member and piano player of the Jehovah's Witness Congregation in Carrick. One of her favorite bible verses is:
Rev 21:3-4 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Gloria was predeceased by; Robert (Husband), Brian (Son) and Trinity (Great granddaughter) and leaves behind children: Patricia, John (Chelsea) and Barbra (Barry), and grandchildren Roman, Robert, Anthony, Rashawna, Mekhi and Julian, and great grandchildren Saniah, and Emmett.
Gloria's warm heart and sweet nature will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Friends received WEDNESDAY 11:30 am - 12:30 pm at TIMOTHY K. SLATER Funeral Services, Inc. (412-381-3337) 425 Brownsville Road, Mt. Oliver, Pittsburgh, 15210, where a service will be held at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 2:00 pm.
