"Elizabeth (Betty) Pittek passed away peacefully March 19th at the age of 83, surrounded by her children and granddaughter.
Born August 24th, 1942 to John and Elizabeth Hess, she was raised in the Allentown neighborhood of Pittsburgh PA with her brother, John, and sisters, Carol, Janice, Beverly, and Linda.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Andrew J. Pittek, Jr., and grandson Matthew D. Hewlett.
Betty is survived by her son Andrew J. Pittek, III, daughter Susan Orde, granddaughter Samantha Flanagan, and great grandchildren Ayden, Madilyn, Kensington, and Lillian Flanagan.
Betty and Andy raised their children in the Mt. Oliver neighborhood of Pittsburgh PA before moving to Whitehall PA.
While living in Mt. Oliver, she worked at the Red Sheild (Rite Aid) and Miller Hardware before starting a career with Equibank (Ntl. City) bank, working her way up from floating teller to branch manager before retiring. Finding too much time on her hands after her husband passed, she ventured out to work for AAA of Pleasant Hills PA where she worked full time till August 2025.
Joy was found by curling up with a Danielle Steele novel, gardening, knitting baby blankets, baking Christmas cookies by the dozens and vacations to the beach.
Her home and swimming pool were always welcoming to family and friends.
Born with an adventurous streak, Betty was thrilled to accompany her granddaughter on the sky coaster ride at Kennywood Park and fearless as she did the 50ft free fall of the Dragons Descent and zip line adventure at the Creation museum in Kentucky.
Her presence will be profoundly missed by family and friends.
We will gather to celebrate Betty's life Sunday, March 22nd. Visitation from 2pm - 4pm, followed by a service at 4pm.
