Diana "Di" Mahoney Obituary

MAHONEY

Diana Lynn

Age 60, on Saturday, April 5, 2025, of Pittsburgh.

"It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Diana Mahoney, a devoted wife, cherished daughter, beloved sister, relative, and friend.  Her warmth, compassion, and unwavering dedication to helping others will leave an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Diana was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Carol Mahoney, her twin sister Denise and brother, David, all of Pittsburgh, and her companion Opal, her big black labrador.

She is survived by her wife and soulmate of 21 years, Mary “Marti” Ball, her best friends for decades, Tom Johnson, Lisa Hooker, Linda Johnson, Julie Earley, and so many other friends she met along the way, too numerous to account for here, as well as her beloved cousins, Kelly, Shannon and Shawn Mahoney, her godmother, Jackie Reitzel, and all of her uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Diana was a proud graduate of Carrick High School, Class of 1982.  While working as an LPN for a dialysis clinic in Pittsburgh, Diana continued her education at Duquesne University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and continuing her journey of caring for others.  Diana spent nearly a quarter century at the renowned Johns Hopkins Brain Rescue Unit, earning the covenanted title of Nurse of the Month several times at Hopkins, retiring after working in the newly created "Hopkins Command Center" in 2018.

Diana then returned to Pittsburgh, where she continued her career during the COVID-19 Pandemic spending tireless hours providing the citizens of Allegheny County with testing at various sites and most recently coming full circle, working as a dialysis nurse in Shaler Township.  Suffice it to say, that her career as a nurse was not just a profession but a genuine calling.  Diana touched countless lives with her kindness, empathy, and tireless efforts to ensure the well-being of her patients.
Beyond her professional achievements, Diana will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, infectious laughter, and sharp sense of humor.   It is widely known she was a fierce and loyal Steelers fan, as fierce and loyal as she was a friend.  She enjoyed travel and RV'ing with her wife Marti and friends and was fond of the tradition, carried on for decades, of the dozens of vacations taken to the Outer Banks of North Carolina which she considered to be her "Happy Place."

Although our collective heart is broken, let's all remember her for this: Compassion.  Honor.  Bravery.  Passion for what and who you love.  Friendship.  Dedication.

Rest in eternal peace, our Diana.  You will be greatly missed and never, ever forgotten."
