DUNCAN
Danielle Joy
Danielle Joy Duncan was born on September 19, 2003 in Wichita, Kansas. She was a joyful girl, like her name, with a fiery spirit! With three brothers, she had to hold her own, and did it quite well. No one was going to push her around! She daily climbed the small tree in our front yard and protested if you tried to get her out. While she voiced strong opinions, she was also endeared by all with her sweet smile and cheerfulness. Moving to Mt. Lebanon, PA from Wichita, Kansas at age 9, she finished her grade school years at Markham Elementary, then went to Jefferson Middle and to Mt. Lebanon High School, where she graduated with honors in June of 2022. She began playing the flute in 4th grade, participating in band at Markham and continued playing through middle and high school. She particularly enjoyed playing in the orchestra at Mt. Lebanon High School, especially in the pit orchestra for the Spring musicals under Mr. Robert Vogel and Mr. Doug Reichenfeld. She played often in the Beverly Heights Church orchestra and in the orchestra ensemble at Pittsburgh Baptist Church. She possessed a beautiful warm tone on the flute and had a keen musical ability. During high school she was on the Cross Country team and Track team with the pole vault. She loved writing, and wrote articles for the Lebo school newspaper, enjoying the challenge of beginning journalism. Mr. Craig Mysliwczyk, English, AP Language and Journalism teacher was a huge encouragement and friend to Danielle all four years at school. Because of the inspiration of Dr. Michael Gullo, teacher of Environmental Geoscience at the high school, she developed a passion for environmental science and accepted a near full scholarship to attend Allegheny College in Meadville, PA where she was in her first semester majoring in Environmental Science and minoring in Journalism.
With her mom Helena from Europe, Danielle enjoyed many trips to visit her uncles, cousins and grandparents in Brno, Czech Republic. Also being fluent in the Czech language, she enjoyed her family there and the outdoor beauty and culture of that world. Growing up in a Christian family, Danielle attended Bible believing churches with her parents and siblings and began studying God’s Word and memorizing verses at an early age. While attending Beverly Heights Church, Danielle confessed her faith in Jesus Christ and her understanding of His significant death and resurrection for all of mankind. Under the strong
leadership of Pastor Rick Wolling, Pastor Nate Devlin and Youth Pastors Joe Williams and Bob Kelley, Danielle was given a solid Biblical foundation and understanding of God’s deep love for her and His salvation through His Son, Jesus. While Danielle at times struggled with these issues of faith, church, the world’s messages, and how to make sense of it all, she came back around with a softness and openness that showed itself in a peace towards the Lord that was evident to others.
Danielle is survived by her parents, Donald and Helena Duncan of Mt. Lebanon, and brothers John Mark (21), Wesley (15), and James Duncan (12), Aunt Judy Welfelt (Dave), Uncles, Ronald Duncan (Tana), Doug Duncan (Juanita), John Duncan, Marek Hancik (Julie), Tomas Hancik (Renata), Grandparents, Josef and Zdenka Hancik.
Friends received SATURDAY, November 19, 2022, 9:30 - 11 am at the BEVERLY HEIGHTS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1207 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, 15228, where a Memorial Service will be held at 11 am.
