Age 88, suddenly, on Saturday, August 3, 2019, of Providence Point, formerly of Mt. Lebanon and Ben Avon.
Beloved husband of Katharine "Kitty" Donnan;
loving father of John, and Michelle (Gregory) Smith, and the late Heather;
devoted grandfather of Caroline Davis, and Richard "Rocco" Emery Davis, and Jesseca Leigh Emery;
beloved brother of the late Josephine Emery Waag;
loving uncle of Lisa Waag, Carol (Jay) Waag Swift, and Richard (Grace) Emery Waag.
Will be dearly missed by his family, relatives, friends.
Paul was a member of the Dartmouth College class of 1953 and earned his master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He taught in the North Hills school district from 1954 - 1985. Paul was also a 50+ year member of Mt. Lebanon Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he and Kitty were married in 1959, and where he served as a deacon and elder at many times during his membership.
Before and during retirement, Paul also taught Sunday School, many group Bible studies, Bethel Bible Series and AARP 55 Alive driving classes.
Paul had an adventurous spirit and was full of life. His many hobbies include
Music - playing piano and clarinet; singing in the church choir and in the Pittsburgh Keystone Chorus (barbershop)
Acting in Providence Point plays
Travelling all over the world and while young, all over the US
Physical activities - cycling, hiking, camping, running, swimming, water volleyball, rollerblading, and ice skating
Photography & astronomy
Trains - riding them, reading about them, building model sets
Sports cars - owning a 1959 Corvette, Triumph TR4, TR7 and Spitfire; and going to car shows
Sports - watching football and baseball; a big Pirates and Steelers fan
Writing - Christmas letters, family records and travel logs
Paul loved his family and Kitty's Northern Irish family. He spent a lot of time at the Emery properties on Cape Cod and felt very much at home there. He was an avid genealogy researcher and a member of the Mayflower Society.
But most of all, Paul loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and enjoyed sharing the grace of God with others.
A memorial service will be held SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, at Providence Chapel, 500 Providence Point Blvd., Scott Township, PA 15243, at 2 p.m. with a reception following.
