Dear Becky
I was sad to see Doug's obituary in today's Penn Franklin. I have nice memories of our outings--Doug was such a nice man. It is wonderful that you had 50 years together. I'm truly sorry for your loss.

Doug was one of my first mentors and friends when I began work at Westinghouse in 1972. He called himself a Virginia farm boy, and he did have an infectious laugh and great sense of humor. He and Becky were guests at my wedding. Sadly, I lost touch with Doug when he retired from Westinghouse. I drove by his old home in Heather Highlands recently and wondered how he was doing., so I was especially saddened by the news of Doug's passing. I extend my condolences to Becky and all of Doug's family. Rest in peace, Doug. ✝

Douglas was my oldest friend. He lived about a quarter of a mile from my house. We met in the first grade in Stephens City. In the second grade I stole his pencil and we got into a fight. He cried. I felt terrible. By fifth grade I was going to church with his family and did so for several years. We graduated from James Wood High School in 1957. He was an excellent student, graduating third in his class. He was something of a role model for me then and later as he did well at VPI and the University of Illinois. I was in his wedding party and we attended several class reunions together. Though we did not live close to each. other, we visited occasionally. And we exchanged long Christmas letters, something that we both looked forward to immensly. Yes, I will always remember his infectious, joyful laugh. I will always cherish our friendship. Becky, I am so sorry that you have lost your wonderful husband and friend. Richard
